Are you a woman who has been facing insomnia? Have you been noticing that there is a pattern for you to feel sleep-deprived? If you said yes to both these questions then keep scrolling down because we have just the solution you have been looking for.
Sleep Difficulties During The Phases of The Moon
If you do some research on your own, you would know that sleep has been linked with having effects by the phases of the moon cycle. Yes, you read that correctly.
Most recently, a paper published in the Science Advances Journal found that people can face difficulty in sleeping during the phases of the moon.
According to the study, humans, especially women are subjected to circadian rhythms. A circadian rhythm can be best described as a 24-hour cycle that dictates wakefulness or the occurrence of sleep. These circadian rhythms are closely linked to the phases of the moon and sleep.
The researchers who participated in the study mentioned above pointed out that there were oscillation patterns found in the sleep patterns of the people they conducted the research on. Women, in most cases, were found to have disrupted sleep patterns that also coincided with the different phases of the moon.
The scientists of the University of Washington reported that 3 to 5 days before the full moon were most crucial with regards to people getting good sleep. Women who tried sleeping earlier during this time around failed and slept quite less as compared to other days. Wristbands were used to monitor their sleep cycle.
According to the study, no matter where these people were, whether, in a dark rural place or an urban environment, the sleep cycle was still affected by the phases of the moon. This means that women who were away from any direct moonlight still slept less in the week that led up to a full moon. So, it does not matter if you stay indoors or outdoors, the phases of the moon will still be having an impact on your sleep cycle according to the study.
The women, who were there during the time of the research, fell asleep an hour later approximately as compared to other nights which were not full moon nights.
Also, it is important to notice that the more rural the environment was in the study, the stronger the effect was recorded of the moon on the sleep patterns of women. People in the big cities were still, however, affected by the phases of the moon.
Poor Sleep Patterns
It is important to notice here that about 25% of the average American adult population already suffers from a poor sleeping pattern. This means that most people are not getting good sleep on 15 days out of the entire month. If we calculate this and put it in perspective then it means that it is half of the entire life that an average American lives for.
To help you get better sleep at night, it is important that you recognise the signs of poor sleeping patterns and how you can work on them.
Here is a list of the signs of poor sleeping patterns:
